Free Rubik's Cube solver that scans your cube

Cube Scanner solves a scrambled 3×3 Rubik's Cube right in your browser. Show each of the six sides to your phone or laptop camera, and it works out a short solution, usually around 20 moves, then guides you through it one turn at a time with a 3D animation of every move.

How it works

  1. Scan. Hold one side of the cube inside the grid and tap Capture face. The app tells you which way to turn the cube for the next side.
  2. Check. Before solving, it makes sure the colors add up to a real cube: nine stickers of each color and six different centers.
  3. Solve. Follow the moves one by one. The 3D cube shows which layer to turn and in which direction, and the arrow buttons step forward or back.

Frequently asked questions

Is it free?

Yes. There is no sign-up and no app to install.

Does it work on iPhone and Android?

Yes, in Safari or Chrome. Open the page directly in the browser rather than inside another app, because in-app browsers often block the camera.

Is my camera image uploaded anywhere?

No. The camera picture and the solving both stay on your device. Nothing is sent to a server.

Can I use it without a camera?

Yes. Choose manual entry and tap each square to set its color.

What do the letters in the solution mean?

They are standard cube notation. U, D, F, B, L and R stand for the up, down, front, back, left and right sides. A letter on its own means a quarter turn clockwise as you look at that side, a letter with an apostrophe (like R') means a quarter turn counterclockwise, and a 2 (like U2) means a half turn.

How many moves does a solution take?

Around 20 moves for a fully scrambled cube, and just one or two if the cube is almost solved.
